formation
The Postulancy is a period in which newly admitted woman begins her discernment. During this time, she considers more deeply her vocation to the religious life, and especially to SSG. This is an opportunity to explore her own resolve and fitness for life as a religious in a dispersed Monastic Community. The normal term of the postulancy shall be a minimum of 6 months under the guidance of a Sister Companion.
A postulant , is received into the Novitiate after a minimum period of 6 months. During this time, the novice will continue her discernment under the guidance of a Sister Companion. She may now wear a choir habit consisting of a white tunic that extends to the ankles, and a cincture of brown. Side beads may also be worn. The normal term of the novitiate shall be a minimum of one year.
When she feels ready, a novice asks to make her First Profession of vows, and becomes a full member of the Community. A professed Sister may wear a choir habit consisting of a white tunic that extends to the ankles, a cincture of brown with the three-fold vows represented by knots, and a brown scapular. She also receives a profession cross inscribed with the words “Soli Deo Gloria”. Annual vows of profession shall be renewed at Convocation each year.
A Sister is eligible to make a Profession of Life Vows when both she, and the Council feel that she is ready for this solemn commitment. Normally this is after a term of 5 years in annual vows. A Sister may choose to remain in annual vows. Life professed Sisters wear a plain gold ring on their right hand.
